The contest saw 15 ladies of KadazanDusun and Murut descent compete for the Miss Oceanus Kaamatan crown. During the two-day event, the contestants competed on the catwalk, displayed their intelligence and knowledge about their ethnic roots during the Q&A session as well as showcased their beautiful gowns and traditional wears.

The Miss Oceanus Kaamatan contest was organized out of the interest of showcasing the Kaamatan celebrations that will be held state-wide on the 30th and 31st May 2016. The highlight of Kaamatan is the Unduk Ngadau – a local beauty pageant held yearly in honour of Huminodun, who sacrificed herself for the people in a time of famine. To celebrate this, Oceanus Waterfront Mall organized Miss Oceanus Kaamatan, with its inaugural event held in 2015. Building upon the success of that event, the mall decided to run the event again this year.

This year’s Miss Oceanus Kaamatan is sponsored by Bearbox Fitness, Juara Gym, Sabah Functional Athletics Society, Life Bento, Nando’s, Promenade Hotel, Kimora Entertainment Network, Zenoctil, La Mode Hair Boutique, Ocean7 Art Gallery, and Mama Florist and Gift Shop.

Along with the Miss Oceanus Kaamatan title, the contestants also competed for several subsidiary titles including Best Creative Ethnic Gown, Miss Natural Beauty, Miss Friendly, Miss Perfect Body and Miss Popular. The contest also introduced a new subsidiary title – Tati Pangazou – which is sponsored by the Borneo Pangazou Tournament.

In his speech at the Grand Final event, Executive Director of Waterfront Urban Development Sdn Bhd Mr. Johnson Koh shared his hope that the event will help introduce the Kaamatan festival to international shoppers who visit the mall, and share with them the lively festivities that go on in Sabah during Kaamatan.

The Miss Oceanus Kaamatan crown was won by Mary Grace Lojuki. She succeeds last year’s winner Hosiani Jaimis. The first runner up title went to Valencia Ann Primus while the 2nd runner up was won by Clarelina Pinus. The winners of the subsidiary titles are as follows:
